Commuting difference operators, spinor bundles and the asymptotics of pseudo-orthogonal polynomials with respect to varying complex weights

چکیده
The paper has three parts. In the first part we apply the theory of commuting pairs of (pseudo) difference operators to the (formal) asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials: using purely geometrical arguments we show heuristically that the asymptotics, for large degrees, of orthogonal polynomial with respect to varying weights is intimately related to certain spinor bundles on a hyperelliptic algebraic curve, thus reproducing from ”first principles” formulæ appearing in the works of Deift et al. on the subject. In the second part we show that given an arbitrary nodal hyperelliptic curve satisfying certain conditions of admissibility we can reconstruct a sequence of polynomials orthogonal with respect to semiclassical complex varying weights supported on several curves in the complex plane. The strong asymptotics of these polynomials will be shown to be given by the spinors introduced in the first part. In the third part we use Strebel theory of quadratic differentials and the procedure of welding to reconstruct arbitrary admissible hyperelliptic curves. As a result we can obtain orthogonal polynomials whose zeroes may become dense on a collection of Jordan arcs forming an arbitrary forest of trivalent loop-free trees. متن کاملUniform Asymptotics for Discrete Orthogonal Polynomials with Respect to Varying Exponential Weights on a Regular Infinite Lattice
Abstract. We consider the large-N asymptotics of a system of discrete orthogonal polynomials on an infinite regular lattice of mesh 1 N , with weight e , where V (x) is a real analytic function with sufficient growth at infinity. The proof is based on formulation of an interpolation problem for discrete orthogonal polynomials, which can be converted to a Riemann-Hilbert problem, and steepest de...
متن کاملStrong asymptotics of Laguerre-type orthogonal polynomials and applications in random matrix theory
We consider polynomials orthogonal on [0,∞) with respect to Laguerre-type weights w(x) = xe, where α > −1 and where Q denotes a polynomial with positive leading coefficient. The main purpose of this paper is to determine Plancherel-Rotach type asymptotics in the entire complex plane for the orthonormal polynomials with respect to w, as well as asymptotics of the corresponding recurrence coeffic...
متن کاملFrom random matrices to quasi-periodic Jacobi matrices via orthogonal polynomials
We present an informal review of results on asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials, stressing their spectral aspects and similarity in two cases considered. They are polynomials orthonormal on a finite union of disjoint intervals with respect to the Szegö weight and polynomials orthonormal on R with respect to varying weights and having the same union of intervals as the set of oscillations of a...
متن کاملThe ∂ Steepest Descent Method for Orthogonal Polynomials on the Real Line with Varying Weights
We obtain Plancherel-Rotach type asymptotics valid in all regions of the complex plane for orthogonal polynomials with varying weights of the form e−NV (x) on the real line, assuming that V has only two Lipschitz continuous derivatives and that the corresponding equilibrium measure has typical support properties. As an application we extend the universality class for bulk and edge asymptotics o...
